She was born on February 24, 1941, in Marion County, a daughter of the late Lawrence "Chappy" and Myrtle (Morgan) Norris. Mary was an active member of the Christ United Methodist Church and later of Gateway United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years.
