It was the day that the Lord had made on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, when Carol Jean Smith Paulin made her transition while at CAMC Memorial, 3200 MacCorkle Avenue, SE, Charleston, WV. She had also previously spent several days rehabilitating at Dunbar Center, 105 Caldwell Lane, Dunbar, WV. Carol was born on December 9, 1953, to the late Ms. Imogene Smith in Hinton, WV. She was raised in Hinton and graduated from Hinton High School. After high school, she settled in Charleston, and later graduated from West Virginia State where she joined a sorority. Her mother gave her the name "Carol" because she was her "Christmas Carol" because she was born during the Christmas holiday season. Carol taught Sunday school while attending Abundant Life Church of God in Charleston. She worked in the finance ministry of Bishop T.D. Jakes when he was in the Charleston area, as a retailer at Kauffman Department Store, as a representative at Mountaineer Gas, as a long-term substitute teacher for Kanawha County and as an instructor at Job Corps Center in Charleston. Carol was a dresser. She loved jewelry and each day she wore something new. Her students and family members always teased her about having so many clothes of which were designer name brand. Anyone who knows Carol knew that she loved the Head of her life, Jesus Christ, and she was a faithful servant of the Lord, and she loved her husband and family and friends. Carol is survived by and leaves to mourn, her devoted and loving husband, Venson Paulin; a sister, Lois (Raefield) Larkins-Wright of MD; five nieces: Kimberly (MD), Angela (WV), Chasity (WV), Jennifer (OH) and Krista (WV); two great-nieces: Alaziah and Bella; six great-nephews: Devan, Dominique, Anthony, Saviour, Javein, and Demaury; and a host of in-laws. She also leaves Special Friends: Mrs. Alice Barksdale and Mrs. Frances Brooks; a host of 1st, 2nd and 3rd cousins; relatives and friends. Carol was preceded in death by her baby brothers: Billy Ray Smith and James Calvin Smith. Carol was loved and is missed today and will be missed in the days to come by her husband, family, and friends. Funeral Services will be held at The Faith and Truth Apostolic Church, 1405 Second Avenue, Charleston, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, with Elder Lois S. Larkins and Bishop Norman Jones officiating. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Esquire Cemetery, Hinton, WV.
