Rev. Helen Davis Bell, 74, of San Antonio, TX, passed away peacefully on 19 September 2018, at Lakeside Care Center. She was born 2 October 1943 to Rev. Homer H. Davis and the late Pearl Wilson Davis in Kanawha County, WV. She was educated in the Charleston public school system, and later received a B.A. from West Virginia State University. After graduation, Helen went to work for the State of WV in the Department of Human Services Division. She later accepted her call to ministry and went on to earn her Masters of Divinity from Gammon Theological Seminary, as well as serve as the first V.P. of the Gammon Alumni association. Rev. Bell pastored Seay Hubbard United Methodist Church in Nashville, TN. She later transferred from the TN Conference of the UMC in 20002 and was appointed to the WV Annual Conference as District Superintendent serving the Little Kanawha District. She retired in 2013. She is survived by her loving sons, John A. Brown Jr. (Katie) of Charleston, WV, Retired Major Robert H. Brown (Libby) of San Antonio, TX, Father Rev. Homer H. Davis of Charleston, WV; sisters, Claudette F. Patterson (Bobby) of Charleston, WV, Linda C. Horn of Raleigh, NC, Mary M. Mason of Charleston, WV; seven grandchildren; three great - grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends. There will be a viewing at the Simpson Memorial United Methodist Church, 607 Shrewsbury St., Charleston, WV, on Saturday, September 29, from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Services will follow at noon and will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Felica Wooten Williams. Preston Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
