Clyde M. Watson, 87, of South Charleston, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Hubbard Hospice West after a sudden two week illness. He was born on May 28, 1929, in Stella, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Leland G. and Glennie Watson. He was also preceded the death by his brother, Gene Watson; sister Lela Mae Fry; brother, Harold Watson. Clyde was a 1947 graduate of South Charleston High School. He retired in 1986 from Union Carbide as Employee Relations Administrator as a liaison in the Data Department with 38 years of service at the age of 56. He was a member of the Elks Club Lodge 202, 32nd Degree Mason, Beni Kedem Shrine, a former President of the American Society of Training Directors and also Chief Warrant Officer in the Naval Reserve with 36 years of service. After retiring he enjoyed his hobby of watercolor art work. He looked forward to participating in the Mound Arts and Crafts Festival and taking art classes from Grace Martin Taylor at Mason School of Music and Art. He enjoyed playing golf with the Carbide "old-timers" for many, many years. He loved taking fishing trips with his Son, Giles and especially surf fishing in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. The thing he liked the most was being able to take trips with his wife and granddaughter, Laura, as she was growing up. Clyde is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Ann (Giles) Watson; son, Giles (Libby) Watson; granddaughter, Laura (Stephen) Pavey; great grandson, Jackson Pavey; sister, Meta Belle McCracken; sister-in-law, Loretta Watson; sister-in-law, Wanda (Don) Droullard; nieces, Sandra (Dave) Bourgeois, Mary K. (Pat) Bond, and Julie (Jack) Deal; Nephews, Barry Lee (Peggy) McCracken, Jeff (Alva) McCracken, Steve (Gina) Fry, Scott McCracken, Doug (TJ) Watson, Gene Watson, and Rex Watson. Thanks to the great nieces and nephews and their spouses who are so precious to us and have been so helpful to us during troubled time. Visitation and Celebration will be held on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston with entombment in Cunningham Memorial Park, Upper Mausoleum, Saint Albans.
