Betty Jo Singleton 01/03/1961 - 12/03/2022

Obituary

On January 3, 1961, Betty Jo Singleton was born to Wycee Williams and Edith Vaten. Betty was the 9th child out of total of 12 children from Edith Vaten. She graduated as a St. Albans Red Dragon in 1981. Her favorite subject in school was Home Economics which explains the why she provided, cooked, cleaned, and cared for those she loved. Serving and providing was her MINISTRY. After graduating Betty found joy in hanging out and riding motorcycles with the love of her life, (late) London Green. She also found joy in loving, spoiling, caring and providing for all her nieces and nephews. One thing for sure, she made sure none of us went without food, clean clothes and a fresh braid in our hair before she took us anywhere if it was walking or for a ride in grandmas van……. with no air, “WD” windows down as she would call it! Betty worked and served at Christ Kitchen for many years. There she would prep, serve food and clean up after the less fortunate there in the St. Albans Community. She had a positive and loving spirit towards everyone. Betty planted seeds of loved with everyone she encountered, but if you rubbed her the wrong way or got on her nerves……she had no shame in letting you know. In the late 1990’s Betty became the “Nanny” to Randal, Byron, David, Kendrick and Isaiah Wiley. She welcomed them all with open arms and made sure they were always well fed, taken care of and sharp each Sunday morning for church. The “boys” sure meant the world to her. In early 2000, Betty became a member of A More Excellent Way Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Robert L Haley III. There she was called to serve as head Usher and Amour Bearer for the Bishop. Many of visiting Pastors often wanted to take Betty back to serve at their church because she welcomed everyone with that contagious smile, attentiveness and for the vision she had for anticipating the needs of the people…..TRUE SERVANT. These last few years Aunt Betty found happiness in traveling when she could to got to water parks, watching her nieces and nephews play sports, grilling out, listening to music, drinking her PEPSI, hanging out on her porch surrounded by her “kids”, video calling and scrolling on Facebook, not to mention hollering at KEN to do this and do that. Betty had nicknames for almost all her nieces and nephews. If she didn’t holler our name when she needed us, we knew something wasn’t right. She would call like 3-4 other names before she finally got to the one, she intended to yell for. Her nieces and nephews were her world. The youngest, her great great niece Aliayhnae “Nae Nae” age 3 meant the world to her. Not to forget she was very thankful for her brothers and sisters as well for blessing her with such. Proceeded in death by her older sisters Carolyn Sue James, Edith Brock, Paulette Perry and Kathy Williams, niece Joanna “Chelle”Allen and nephew “Howie Do” Matthew Singleton. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: father Wycee Williams, “Momma” Edith Vaten, Aunt Eva Thompson, sister Brenda “Berta” Wiley, brothers Klyde Bruton, Mark Bruton and baby brother Richard Vaten all of St. Albans, WV, sister Marcia ‘Girl” Cole of Dayton Ohio, sister Billie Wilson “Bill” and Lisa Singleton both of Charleston WV, sister Debra Stith “Deb” of Columbus, Ohio, sister Anita Williams, brother Tim Williams and baby sister Jacquii Williams all of Detroit Michigan, a total of 104 nieces and special cousins Jimmy Harris and Roxie “Ann” Geiger and a host of cousins and friends. Our dear Betty, Aunt Betty, Lou will be deeply missed by all that loved her. There will never be another like her. World’s best Aunty.
